Purple Rose Rattery is located in Hillsdale, MI. I have been breeding rats for over a year now and I currently have 38 rats including my permanent boys and girls and my 2 newest litters.

I breed for health above ALL else. "Why, not temperment too?" You may be asking. Why? Because the majority of rats I have met have had good personalities and good temperments and the rest have had great personalitities and great temperments with a slight few (about 1%) being aggressive and mean. So there temperment is not of big concern to me. I believe a rats personality and temperment is derived from upbringing, how often it's handle and how it's treated.

I am aiming for rats that are less likely to get cancer, tumors, and mycoplasm. I also breed for size (big rats), and smaller litters. I figure if I breed good rats and smaller litters, they are less likely to end up in a shelter or a snakes belly.

I also do NOT show my rats. My main reason is because of the quantining procedures and illnesses rats can pick up at a show. I would however like to show my rats someday when this is less of a threat, but until then I leave that up to the pros.
